Job Description

General Overview:

  • A large part of this role involves keeping our inventory of plants happy and healthy. It also includes keeping the shop looking great, assisting customers, and helping to ensure that our operation runs smoothly. In order to move into other more specific roles, we generally begin new staff members in this position so they can develop a clear and comprehensive understanding of B.Willow and everything that we do!

Scheduling:

  • Set schedule: Tuesday (11AM-7PM), Thursday (11AM-7PM), Sunday (10AM-6PM)

    • Possibility of picking up more shifts depending on additional scheduling needs/events. 

    • $16/hour starting rate with opportunity for wage increase depending on performance and business needs 

Plant Care:

  • Already possesses an intermediate level of plant care knowledge, with excitement to learn more.

  • Watering

  • Trimming dead/broken leaves

  • Identifying/assessing/treating plants for pests

  • Constantly attentive to all of the plants in our space!

  • Customer plant care assistance:

    • Ability to effectively assist customers select plants that will thrive depending on their available light and knowledge, as well as helping customers with questions or concerns about their existing plants

    • Repotting plants purchased in shop and those sold in the shop

Great customer service:

  • Someone with a warm, friendly, confident, bubbly demeanor and a gentle (non-pushy) customer service style! We look for employees who are able to maintain a high energy level with a great attitude.

  • Greeting customers soon after they enter the shop, making yourself available and accessible for their questions

  • Operating the POS, answering questions and helping customers select plants

Cleaning:

  • Ensuring floor is swept, free of dirt

  • Vaccuuming shelves and under display fixtures

  • Windexing terrariums, doors

  • Wiping surfaces

  • Mopping floors

  • Breaking down boxes

  • Putting out trash / recycling / compost

  • Dusting merchandise, display fixtures

  • Keeping bathroom clean

  • Putting things back in their proper place

  • Keeping common areas tidy

  • Cleaning humidifiers

Self directed, quick learner:

  • Regularly refer to our task list throughout the day

  • Someone who can take in new information, memorize it, and make it part of their daily routine

  • Show initiative

Merchandising, display:

  • Restocking plants and merchandise

  • Ensuring all item are displayed in a non-cluttered, aesthetically pleasing manner, easily accessible for the customer

  • Keeping goods clean, free of dirt and dust

  • Constantly circulating the shop and making any adjustments to ensure the shop is looking as organized and clean as possible 

  • Ensuring all items are priced correctly, and prices are legible/visible

Physical expectations:

  • Regularly expected to lift heavy bags of soil, rocks, pots and other planting materials (up to 50 lb)

  • This is a very fast paced, physically demanding role. Your hands will get dirty!

  • Those who do not show up ready to work hard will quickly learn that this is not the job for them - be prepared to be on your feet for hours, with very little down time (except your break of course)!

Cohesive understanding of business offerings/services:

  • Familiar with all offerings, policies, website, events, etc.

Communication and Professionalism

  • Expected to ask a lot of questions, especially within your first few months of employment

  • Good communication skills are a must - someone who is comfortable asking questions and being proactive to address any concerns

  • Someone with a clear understanding of what it means to be professional in a working environment, especially a fast-paced small business

Operational Assistance:

  • Stamping bags

  • Receiving orders, assisting with deliveries

  • Intaking orders, adding into POS

  • Breaking down boxes upon delivery, placing in appropriate place

  • Labeling/stickering products for sale

  • Assisting openers & closers with morning/evening tasks 

  • Assisting with event prep / packing orders

Seasonal Florals:

  • Ensuring that bouquet stems look healthy and are underwater, not broken or damaged

  • Returning florals to cooler at end of night

  • Restocking bouquets and flowers for the Build Your Own Bouquet display

  • Helping customers build their own bouquet
